Anita's Story

Life I've lived in Iowa for the past 32 years and although I hate the winters, I really like my adopted state. It's home, now. Rod and I will celebrate our 33rd anniversary this June; I met him as a freshman at Findlay College, now U of F. We have three children, ages 29, 26, and 22. Our eldest son currently works as a waiter at two restaurants and loves it much more than the bank job that he had previously. He is a prolific reader, loves literature, and he is an excellent writer. He has helped a friend produce a cd and creates his own electronic music. He is having a couple of health issues to go along with his Type 1 Diabetes, diagnosed in high school, but we are optomistic that a stapedectomy to replace an ear bone in each ear will prevent him from a progressive deafness. Our middle child is finishing her first year at U of I College of Dentistry. She continues to work really, really hard, and loves it. It's amazing what is required to pursue a career in the medical/dental profession. I told her she should write a book about that process, alone! Our youngest graduated from college early, in December '14, despite battling Hodgkins Lymphoma. He went through chemo from Oct. '14 - April '15 and was just found to be in 100% remission, and this kind of cancer should not come back. We thank God for that! Before his diagnosis, he took the LSAT, yet had been thinking about coming into our business. He dec...Expand for more
ided to do just that, and we are pretty excited for him to continue working with his dad, and look forward to his return to health. My husband and I own a business that manufactures supplements for horses and dogs, and he was talked into becoming the mayor of our small town. He does a great job, but I can say that it is sometimes tiresome when going out in public, as people tend to forget you don't want to address potholes and public urination problems at just any venue! Rod has taken his lifelong guitar playing-hobby and dabbled a little bit at "jam nights" in local communities. We love live music, and try to go to see some of the great area talent, as well as try to catch concerts in some of the closer major cities. You who live near Cleveland should take advantage of all that awesome music right in your backyard! I also keep busy by helping out with trade shows from time to time, by going to work out several times per week, by helping with a little community service work like Meals on Wheels, and by assisting at church a bit with lectoring opportunities. We love to travel, and recently (went in '14; same winner is FL in '15) went to the first three days of the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, as our daughter was a pitcher at a D-3 college in Iowa and we still love ball. My latest fav. summer activity is SUP-ing. I love hearing what everyone is up to, so drop me a line if you like!
